Some PC manufacturers do better than others, as with all these changes in the sales figures. We see that only Apple increased its PC sales from Q3 2021 to Q3 2022, increasing its market share percentage to double digits. On the other hand, it seems that HP had the worst performance. IDC analysis suggests that the third quarter of this year’s worldwide PC market had only dramatic Mac growth. It demonstrates that all other major brands’ shipments fell within the same period, whereas Mac shipments rose by more than 40% year over year. IDC estimated 74.3 million worldwide PC shipments in the third quarter of 2022. Shipments totaled 87.3 million units in the same quarter a year earlier; as a result, there has been a 15% YoY reduction overall. It may seem like awful news, but IDC points out that before the epidemic, PC sales were far lower. For instance, if we look at Q3 2017 and Q3 2018, PC shipments were stagnating at a little over 67 million units. So it seems that the factors that encouraged customers to purchase PCs remain rather potent after the epidemic.  Lenovo continues to dominate the PC market, with a 22.7% share in Q3 2022. With 16% fewer PCs delivered compared to a year earlier, it has suffered somewhat from a decline in market share but more significantly from a decline in shipping volumes. HP, which is in the second position, has suffered the hardest, losing market share while also seeing an almost 30% decline in shipping numbers. As was noted in the introduction, Apple’s most recent numbers shown amazing strength. Its sales increased by 40%, and its market share increased by 8.2% to 13.5% year over year. People are very intrigued in and enthused by Apple’s recent shift to Apple Silicon, which is likely motivating platform upgrades as well as switchers. In its press release statistics, IDC doesn’t specifically mention companies like MSI, Gigabyte, Razer, and smaller businesses, but it does provide more thorough market data to paying customers. These brands are included in the “Others” category, which in terms of market share has had a rather steady transition from 2021 to 2022, but in terms of the overall picture, the group’s shipments are down 19.4%.
