Hogwarts Legacy System Requirements
The system requirements for Hogwarts Legacy have just been officially revealed. They were recently uploaded to the Hogwarts Legacy Steam listing and, honestly, they’re kind of confusing. The minimum requirements outweigh the hardware and performance of the Nintendo Switch, which the game is supposed to come out on. So, how will the game actually run on the handheld and what will it look like upon release? The Switch has managed to port some graphically-intensive games over the years; the likes of Doom Eternal and Witcher 3 and gave us an awesome experience on the Switch but didn’t nearly require hardware of this magnitude on the PC side. The developer of the title, Avalanche Software states that players will need at least 85GB of hard drive space, in addition to 8 GB of dual-channel memory paired with at least a GTX 1070 8GB graphics card to be able to run the title at 1080p 60 FPS at minimum settings. As for the recommended settings, they don’t seem to be so far off from the minimum system requirements for the game which is quite strange. To run the game at max settings, players will need 16GB of dual-channel memory installed in their systems, along with a slightly better GPU, the GTX 1080 Ti. Avalanche notes that their preferred option for storage and running the game should be on an SSD, like most modern games these days. The recommended system requirements don’t seem to be all that punishing given what we’ve seen over the years. The game is probably optimized enough as to not need something the likes of an RTX 3080, though it would come in handy in ray-traced scenarios. But some fans in the gaming community don’t seem to hold the same opinion.
As seen above, some users on Reddit have scoffed at the idea of needing a GTX 1070 to run the game at low settings. They claim that a GTX 1070 is fully capable of running modern titles at least medium to high settings at 1080p while outputting a solid 60 FPS. Others are flabbergasted by the significant amount of storage the game is set to take up. System Requirements can be a bit misleading at times as players have been capable of running games at medium settings with solid FPS over the years despite highly demanding system requirements on paper. So it’s possible that Hogwarts Legacy could run well even if you don’t have a GTX 1070 or an equivalent graphics card on hand. In addition, modern AAA titles look polished and stunning even at low settings when compared to the game running at high or ultra settings. Take the example of Cyberpunk 2077 running at low settings. The game looks nearly identical to what you experience at High or Ultra presets. Graphical fidelity options were night and day a decade ago. Crysis showcased this extremely well as the low settings compared to Ultra looked like two different games. Don’t believe us? Check out RandomGaminginHD‘s video.
Therefore, many players have noted that these specs will certainly mean that the upcoming Hogwarts Legacy’s Switch version will no doubt be a Cloud launch for the game. To put things into perspective, one of the most demanding modern-day games, Witcher 3 is available via traditional means and runs on the actual Switch hardware. But, it does have lower system requirements than other games on the Switch such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Hitman 3, and Control, all of which are played on either Nintendo hardware or the cloud. Aside from that, NintendoLife had some interesting information to share on this matter. Hogwarts Legacy is set to receive a physical box release for the Switch but does it mean that the game will be playable via a traditional SD Card? It’s possible the game might be included along with a game code for the Switch, which would be rather disappointing. But this is all speculation. Hogwarts Legacy is set 100 years before the developments in the Harry Potter storyline. The game takes place in the late 1800s and starts off as a custom character that studies at the Hogwarts Academy to either become a wizard or a witch. The player begins the game as a fifth-year student learning advanced magic, battling fierce enemies, and making friends. Players can explore the vast interior of Hogwarts, and make their way to the village of Hogsmeade and the Forbidden Forest where you’ll face off against unknown wizards and foes of all shapes and sizes. Hogwarts Legacy is set to arrive on February 23, 2022, for the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. But the Switch version of the game has not been given an explicit release date so far.
