Sometimes, users seem to find issues with Permission inside Windows. Although, they are logged in as administrator but they get it difficult to save files in their Documents, Pictures, OneDrive and other folders. The error message pops-up while copying the files to these specific folders saying You don’t have permission to save in this location. Contact the administrator to obtain permission. It seems like there is only Read-only mode enabled only. There is no write mode which enables the users to make changes into folders. This is pretty frustrating as they cannot access these folders. So, in this guide, we will be fixing this permission issue restricting the access.

Reason Behind the Permission Issue:

In a majority of cases, this problem is caused by OneDrive creating the permission related issues. It changes the permissions therefore causing the trouble.

Solution to Fix the Permission Issue:   

To fix the permission issue, at first, you would be required to disable the OneDrive at Windows startup. You would also need to change your ownership by tweaking some settings. So, all of that will be discussed in this guide.

Disabling the OneDrive at Windows startup:

  1. The first thing you need to do is to disable OneDrive at startup. You can do this opening the Task Manager. You can open the task manager by right clicking over the Start menu icon and selecting it from the list. After it is opened, navigate to the Startup tab located at the top.

  2. Inside the Startup tab, search for Microsoft OneDrive from the list, right click over it and select Disable. It would disable the OneDrive at Windows startup. Restart the computer and continue following further steps to fix permission issues.

Tweaking Some Settings to Take Full Control of the System:

  1. Right click on the folder where you are having permission issues. Select Properties and move to Security tab at the top. Inside Security tab, click on the Advanced button present at the bottom.

  2. After opening the Advanced panel, click on the Change (with a shield icon on the left) link next to Owner.

  3. In the dialogue appearing next, Enter the object name in the text field followed by the Check Names button like in the picture below. If you find it difficult, click on the Advanced… button at the bottom left and select the name from the list. Click OK

  4. After performing the above task, a new Check-Box labeled as Replace owner on subcontainers and objects will appear under the Owner. Check this box as well as the one present at the bottom left. Make it sure that you have Full control by viewing it inside Permission entries. Hit Apply and OK buttons respectively. See the image below for further illustration.

  5. Repeat the whole procedure for all the folders you are having permission issue with. At the end, you would be having full control of the system and the permission issue will be resolved.
